The RJH (Yorkshire) Ltd was established in 2009 and employs seven people. It is a working quarry dealing with the extraction of sandstone block and processing this onsite to produce building and masonry products for housing, external uses, heritage items and architectural design pieces.
Working alongside the existing stonemason you will learn to produce a wide range of items from raw stone block. This will include building stone, fireplaces, windows and sills and individually commissioned bespoke stone pieces.
What the job involves:
- To understand and confirm masonry requirements against drawings and orders
- To make moulds or templates or use pre-existing moulds to produce stone masonry pieces such as windows and sills
- The use of hand tools and power tools to produce the required products
- Working to precise details and high-quality specifications
- Dressing of stone to the required finish
- Some conservation and restoration of heritage stone items
- Occasional installation of the finished product on site
- Adherence to all Health & Safety requirements on site
- Working as part of a small team to deliver orders on time and to the highest quality
The apprenticeship includes time away from working for specialist training at York College. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
