Conygar Coppice is seeking a trainee in coppice work, hedge laying and hurdlemaking. With new work coming in all the time, trainer Anthony Brown is working at least four acres of coppice this coming season, producing various items for sale (including Dorset hurdles, bean poles, hedging supplies etc.), and also has over 1000m of hedgelaying to complete.

You will receive at least half a day of formal training per week alongside reading materials. No qualifications are required. However, the candidate must have a good level of fitness as the work is very physical, and must be able to use tools competently, copping with very uneven ground and working outside in all conditions.

The candidate is expected to be ready to work for themselves or as the trainer’s assistant by the following season. The traineeship rate will be £50 day plus an occasional piece work rate depending on product (for example, hedgelaying will pay £1 extra per meter we work on per day – usually 30m).
