Mark Shiner, Sail maker

Mark Shiner, from Orkney, was awarded the Endangered Crafts Fund in 2024 to research the ‘spanker’ sail from information available at the Mystic Seaport Museum, Connecticut, reviving methods and materials no longer used in traditional sail making.

This round’s grants were funded by the Pilgrim Trust, the William Grant Foundation and a private donor.
