About
As a textile artist and dollmaker inspired by the legend, landscape and people of Wales, I use a range of creative techniques including stitchery, felt making and free form knitting to make wall art. My MA dissertation (Lingering Fragments) centred on interpreting metaphysical features of landscape through slow stitched poetic maps. As a doll maker, I hand make art dolls which fall into the category of 'Objects of Power' - crafted representations of folkloric or imagined beings which navigate and narrate the human experience. I am currently researching the ways in which dolls can be made for use in transformative and healing encounters. I am a craftivist and I make cloth dolls which illustrate present day social and cultural issues - these are known as Protest Dolls and are regularly exhibited at venues in South Wales. I do not make dolls as toys or playthings. Most of my creative work is produced with exhibition in mind but I do occasionally take part in events with other makers or appear as an artist in residence.
