About
Mackenzie Leather Edinburgh was established in 1990. It is an independent leather workshop with a Showroom dedicated to the preservation of traditional luxury leather‑working skills.
Based in the heart of Edinburgh, the workshop produces handcrafted leather goods using time‑honoured techniques, natural materials, and components sourced from specialist heritage suppliers across the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain.
Materials are selected for their durability, repairability, and capacity to mature over time. Each piece is designed to withstand long‑term use and, where necessary, to be maintained or repaired, reflecting a considered approach to making that prioritises longevity over volume.
Operating within a working workshop environment, the practice maintains a clear distinction between craft and manufacture. The focus remains on quality of execution, respect for material, and the careful application of skill acquired through experience and training.
In an era of increasing skills loss within traditional trades, the workshop recognises the importance of active practice in sustaining craft knowledge. By continuing to work with established techniques and specialist suppliers, it contributes to the wider ecosystem upon which heritage crafts depend.
The work produced reflects an understanding of luxury as a function of process, skill, and time, rather than scale or trend, and is intended to serve both practical and cultural purposes over its lifetime.
