About

I'm Thom O'Nions, founder of Lapwing, a maker of furniture and small objects based at the Sylva Wood Centre in Oxfordshire. I trained in furniture design and making at Rycotewood Furniture Centre, having previously worked in the artworld, a background that still shapes how I think about design and materials.

Lapwing's work is made entirely from home-grown hardwood: oak, ash, walnut and sycamore mainly, sourced from managed British woodland, using hand-cut joinery and traditional techniques alongside contemporary methods. The aesthetic draws on mid-century British modernism: restrained, functional, and built to last. Recent commissions range from museum-grade conservation cabinets for Oxford Colleges, to one off pieces for John Makepeace OBE.
