James Ashwell (Mottes Pots)

Endangered Crafts Fund 2024

In 2024, James received an Endangered Crafts Fund grant to 3D print new pipe moulds from scans of historical clay pipes and take up residency at Broseley Pipeworks to test the moulds using a real gin press. Funded by the Radcliffe Trust.

About

James Ashwell of MottesPots is a heritage pipe maker who completed a Heritage Crafts funded residency with the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust in 2024.

Heritage funding has allowed James to buy a 3D printer in order to print new pipe moulds made from 3D scans of pipes whose moulds have been lost to time.
