About

Helde Handweaving Studio crafts one-of-a-kind woven textiles for the home and body on a wooden, foot-powered floor loom using natural fibres like linen, wool and cotton, sourced from UK and European suppliers and spinners. I have been weaving for over 20 years, and studied fashion and textile design at university in both Canada and the UK. I now work out of a dedicated studio at the back of my garden, which is based in Winchester, on the edge of the beautiful South Downs National Park. I also spin and dye many of the yarns I work with, including natural dye. The name 'Helde' takes its inspiration from a Middle English word for 'heddle,' a loom component that lifts and lowers warp threads to create the structure of the fabric.
The studio is open to visits by appointment only, or in August during Hampshire Open Studios. Please visit our website for more information and to sign up for our newsletter.
