About
Craig Peebles stands at the forefront of a vibrant renaissance in Encaustic Tile making, leading Welby & Wright, his contemporary tileworks in Edinburgh.
With a blend of traditional craftsmanship and innovative fabrication techniques, Craig reinvents this historic medium for contemporary audiences.
4 years of self directed research and development underpin Craig’s practice. His work is a daring fusion of Neo-Gothic grandeur and Pop Art flair drenched in humour and playful irreverence; launching to the public in 2025.
Each tile is a storyteller. Through intricate inlay and fine porcelain clay, his designs capture slices of life and culture, transforming everyday spaces into galleries. His approach champions sustainability; expertly crafting pieces that withstand centuries of use while retaining their vibrancy.
Craig's dedication and skill were recognised by The Heritage Craft Association in 2024 as he earned The Endangered Crafts Fund award; affirming his vital role in evolving this endangered art form.
Craig’s work is sold and exhibited in his Edinburgh studio and online. He invites us to slow down and appreciate the power of stories embedded within surfaces, to be curators and custodians of these playful pieces of living history and witness the magic of encaustic tiles firsthand.

“In a world rushing headlong into the fast and forgettable, my work insists on slow conversation, on the joy of tactile. Enduring beauty beneath our feet and in our hands.”
