About
Caroline Ross is author of two books on pigment and paint-making, natural and foraged paint and ancient, improvised and waste-stream drawing materials. Both are available from Search Press, 2023's bestselling 'Found and Ground' and the 2025's 'Drawn From the Wild'.
She has been teaching pigment making since 2016 and teaches from her studio in Northumberland, nationally at various venues and internationally by invitation. She regularly teaches online via plantsandcolour.co.uk .
With a focus on environmentally sound practice and making art where earth matters, she is a member of the Dark Mountain Project, the Wilderness Art Collective and Pigments Revealed International. She consults regarding earth pigments and art practice in person and online and makes small batch bespoke art material commissions for artists. She can be contacted via her website webform (website being rebuilt shortly), or by email or phone.
She is currently working on her third book about embodied practice and philosophy, based on her weekly Substack, 'Uncivil Savant'.
