About

Bowie is a hand-weaver whose practise combines traditional craft with a contemporary twist. She creates abstract woven artworks on a frame loom, experimenting with colour, pattern and material. Her love of vibrant colour and pattern is largely influenced by her research into the Omega Workshops run by the Bloomsbury Group. Inspired by Allan Brown's Nettle Dress project, she has also been exploring nettle as a sustainable alternative fibre. Other fibre experiments include turning plastic bags into 'plarn' for a piece that reflected on ocean pollution. For Bowie, weaving is a form of meditation and storytelling. Its long history, steeped in mythology, and its engagement with natural fibres provide a sense of connection to deep time and to nature.
