About

Hello
Let me introduce myself my name is Caroline and I’m 57-year-old . I live in a small village in the heart of the North Yorkshire Dales called Askrigg. Just over two years ago I was made redundant from a rope making company in Hawes called Outhwaite Ropemakers. There has been a Ropemakers in hawes since 1905. I’m so passionate about keeping the ancient craft of traditional Ropemaking alive that I decided to purchase the machines that I needed to set up my own traditional rope making business.
Askrigg Ropemakers was formed in 2022.
I am the only female in the whole of the Northeast to make rope the traditional way on such a commercial scale.
I am trying so hard to preserve the tradition. And trying to get the word out there that outhwaites maybe closed but the tradition is still very much alive in the dales but in the next village.
I have had then prime minister Rishi Sunak and Helen Skelton come and visit my unit and make a bit of rope.
I make and sell 100% cotton dog leads, cattle halters, lead ropes and skipping ropes . Please help get the message out there that the tradition in the Dales is still being kept alive which is so important to me.
