About
Hello! My name is April, and I am a full time fore-edge artist from Saskatchewan, Canada. Instead of using a traditional canvas for my creations, I utilize the edges of books. The scenes and characters you see here are painted with gouache or watercolour paints onto the exposed edges of the book. To prepare the surface, I first sand down the edges to create a smooth base for the artwork. Then, I carefully apply the paint in thin layers, reserving the finest details for last. Completing each piece can take several hours or even days. Ultimately, I end up with a book that is fully functional yet serves primarily as a decorative work of art to be cherished on your bookshelf.
