Heritage Crafts Awards 2024 finalists announced

Following a strong year full of high-quality nominations, the finalists for the first tranche of this year’s Heritage Crafts Awards, supported by the King Charles III Charitable Fund, Maxwell/Hanrahan Foundation, William Grant Foundation, Marsh Charitable Trust and Silverlining Furniture have been announced. Further shortlists for other awards will be announced at the end of the summer.

The finalists are (in alphabetical order):

President’s Award for Endangered Crafts

  • Donna Campbell, linen damask weaver
  • Gail McGarva BEM, boat builder
  • anOrdain, watch dial enamellers

Heritage Crafts England Maker of the Year

  • Nick Gill, letterpress printer and type founder
  • Phill Gregson, wheelwright
  • Riina Õun, glove maker

Heritage Crafts Northern Ireland Maker of the Year

  • Bernard Cunningham, traditional plasterer
  • Aaron Leach, blacksmith
  • Cara Murphy, silversmith

Heritage Crafts / William Grant Foundation Scotland Maker of the Year

  • Rachel Frost, hat maker
  • Nicola Laird, kilt maker
  • Richard Platt and Sam Cooper, chair makers

Heritage Crafts / Silverlining Wales Maker of the Year

  • Ian Dennis, antler worker
  • Phil Parkes, maille maker
  • Mari Thomas, jewellery maker

Heritage Crafts / Marsh Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Anthony Bedford, silversmith
  • Nicholas Checksfield, maille maker
  • Kevin Gauld, Orkney chair maker

Heritage Crafts / Marsh Trainer of the Year

  • Emma Brackenbury, costume maker
  • Derek Hunt, stained glass artist

Heritage Crafts / Marsh Trainee of the Year

  • Marlene Lagnado, stonemason
  • James Morton, scissor maker
  • Sam Phillips, wheelwright

Thanks to our judges and congratulations to all of the finalists. The winners will be revealed at a prestigious Winner’s Reception at Eltham Palace in November, supported by The Royal Mint and English Heritage.

Other awards are currently open for nominations including for precious metals, woodworking, fashion textiles, leather, pottery, building crafts, upholstery, weaving and embroidery. Please nominate by 6 September.
