Incredibly passionate about willow basketry and traditional craftsmanship, professional basket maker • designer • teacher Sarah Le Breton handcrafts woven pieces that marry heritage basket forms, techniques and skills with innovative ideas.
Products: Inspired by English heritage baskets and celebrating the craft form that Sarah loves, she has taken time to design, develop and make each basket or lighting feature. In so doing, Sarah has created for you an evolving shop collection that showcases traditional basketry techniques, which highlight the beauty of natural materials and that are perfect for our modern lifestyle. All handwoven by Sarah in her Devon workshop using locally sourced Somerset willow and rush materials. Latest Gallery Work: Persuing her love of skeinwork and Ose baskets, Sarah is creating a new body of work that showcases skeined willow basketry, (a Heritage Craft endangered basketry skill), and developing new forms that combine white willow and hazel.
Workshops: With over a decade of teaching experience throughout the UK, Sarah focuses upon you creating willow baskets, lighting features or sculptures that she has designed. Her Willow Day Workshops are suitable for beginners and those with existing willow weaving experience and held at Chevithorne nr. Tiverton in Devon. At her home studio in a beautiful Devon garden setting, Sarah also offers Bespoke Weaving Exeperiences giving you the opportunity to make either one of the willow baskets that she has designed for her Willow Day Workshops or attend private training with 1:1 or 2:1 tuition. Sarah has been involved in teaching projects throughout the UK and Europe. Clients include River Cottage, RHS, Somerset Rural Life Museum and the Soho House Group. Commissioning: Sarah is particularly keen to take on bespoke basketry commissions including whole willow chair seating and architectural lighting. Sarah also takes on a range of basket and chair seating repairs including Orkney chairs and rush chair seating.
Research: Sarah is interested in being involved with research projects and education initiatives both in the UK and Europe that seek to champion our craft heritage, explore the impact of willow weaving in creative and therapeutical wellbeing services and be involved in projects that address creating a sustainable future for her craft form.
