About
I create complex, three dimensional sculptures that appropriate traditional craft and knotting techniques.
These intricate, tactile structures are self supporting, defying the delicate and flexible nature of the material. They are made without the use of armatures. I enjoy the contradiction between what looks delicate and fragile, but is actually really strong and the challenge of creating something using knots that has structural integrity.
I like to challenge myself by working with new materials. My ideas come from interventions with the materials and from life experiences - These forms represent aspects of different things I encounter in life.
There aren't many widely recognized female knot tyers in popular culture, even though there are many talented women who excel in this field. I hope that my work will raise the profile of minority women artists in this area.
I currently work as a full-time contemporary artist in my Brighton studio in the UK but I love to share my sculptures with an International audience. Every piece I create is unique and they bring with them their own challenges both structurally and visually.
