Heritage Crafts/Marsh Trainee of the Year 2020
The inaugural Heritage Crafts/Marsh Trainee of the Year award went jointly to Richard Platt and Sam Cooper, chairmaking apprentices to Lawrence Neal at Marchmont House in Berwickshire.
About
The Marchmont Workshop, led by Craftsmen Richard Platt and Sam Cooper, makes bespoke traditional furniture based in the Arts and Crafts style. We specialise particularly in Rush Seated chairs, having had the support of the HCA in opening the first Rush Seated Chair making workshop for 54 years in 2020.
We have also taken inspiration from our predecessor Ernest Gimson in some of our larger scale works such as the dining tables we now offer, as well as providing courses for people to learn how to make Rush Seats.
