About
At the NÆDLWEORC, I specialise in nalebinding, weaving, and spinning. These ancient techniques open opportunities for exciting designs and new creations.
For some of my creations, I use hand spun wool, which is made from 100% British wool and rare breeds. Using my own wool allows me to control the source, keep heritage crafts alive and foster the appreciation of natural materials sourced locally in a sustainable way.
I am an archaeologist by trade with an interest in textiles and techniques. The range of techniques I use include drop spindle and wheel spinning, rigid heddle loom and tablet weaving, and nalebinding.
Hand spun wool is a wonderful material and the techniques where this yarn can be used are wide and exciting. While I make traditional nalebinding items, such as caps, mittens and socks, I let my imagination run free when I turn to modern/fantasy creations of my own design, which combines nalebound and woven items. Custom orders are welcome.
I am currently developing the NÆDLWEORC as a small business on Etsi and create a website (currently under construction, but soon available). There will also be workshops available in the near future, and I will be present at wool faires and markets.
I am a member of the Rare Breed Survival Trust and the Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers.
Please contact me for more information. The kettle is always on for a chat about materials, techniques, and design ideas.
