About
I am a textile artist and dollmaker inspired by the legend, landscape and people of Wales. As a textile artist and a member of the Scottish Centre of Geopoetics, I use a variety of stitch and yarn techniques to create mixed media interpretations of place, sometimes using transient or indigenous art. I make cloth dolls which illustrate present day social and cultural issues - these are generally known as "protest dolls" - but I also create biddy and art dolls which are storytellers, rooted in the folklore and mysticism of ages past. I usually produce work for non-acquisition exhibitions and can occasionally be persuaded to attend events or gallery shows as an artist/artisan in residence. I am currently writing a book about the landscape of early medieval Wales and I am illustrating this with examples of contemporary textile art and elemental effigies as well as traditional narrative embroidery techniques such as Bayeux stitch and Needlepoint.
