About
Ksenia Semirova, an embroidery artist based in Hove, embarked on her
artistic journey as a mature individual, driven by the profound realization
that embroidery was the only fulfilling career path for her. Departing from her original background in industrial design, she found that the realm of mass production didn’t align with her creative aspirations. Despite her passion for concept design, she observed that many of her ideas remained confined to prototypes and renders. Ksenia’s desire was to create tangible products that could evoke happiness and enchantment in the lives of real people.
This realization led her to pursue a Master of Arts in Textiles at the University of Brighton, from which she graduated with Distinction in 2022. During her time at the university, Ksenia had the opportunity to merge her existing knowledge and experience with her fascination for visual research. She also delved into the exploration of Russian pearl embroidery — an ancient national technique that had nearly faded into obscurity by the 20th century. Ksenia’s mission extended beyond mere preservation; she aimed to breathe new life into the traditional approach by experimenting and offering a contemporary interpretation. This involved the integration of various embroidery methods, such as Luneville embroidery, which she proficiently practices. Through this synthesis of tradition and innovation, Ksenia strives to not only uphold the rich heritage of Russian pearl embroidery but also to usher it into the modern era with a touch of magic.
