About
I am a handweaver and dyer specialising in silk, creating pieces of wearable art as scarves and stoles using the age-old skills of the handweaver on a traditional floor loom, passionate about slow textiles beautifully woven by hand.
The dyer in me loves colour, using different dye techniques and mixing techniques to get complex effects – vat dyeing, dip dyeing, resist dyeing, ikat and painted warps. I am fascinated by using unusual colour combinations and using contrasting colours in warp and weft to get iridescence.
Combining my weaving and dyeing skills results in silk textiles with richly pigmented shimmering colours having a sheen, beautiful drape and the softest of handle. Each piece is individually hand dyed and therefore unique.
My passion is both the simplicity and complexity of weaving and dyeing and following the traditions of hundreds of years of skilled handweavers with simple equipment along with a twist of fabulous colour.
