About

Established and award-winning textile artist Jacqueline James specialises in designing and making individually designed handwoven rugs and textile art for public and private collections. She combines traditional techniques with contemporary design style to create rugs suitable for the floor and the wall. Each unique piece is custom dyed and made with natural, sustainable, soft and durable materials including wool, cotton and linen. She uses a variety of new and heritage rug weaving techniques, including ‘shaft switching’ invented and shared by Master Weaver Peter Collingwood OBE (1922 – 2008).

Jacqueline especially enjoys collaborating with private collectors, interior designers and architects to create bespoke commissions. She has exhibited her rugs in galleries and craft fairs throughout the UK. Her work is in many public and private collections in the UK and internationally. Major public commissions include weaving for Westminster Abbey, York Minster and the British Library. Rug weaving is her lifestyle occupation and is the perfect vehicle for her visual perception and artistic interpretation.

It is important for Jacqueline to share her experience, skills and enthusiasm about weaving and dyeing, hoping to encourage and inspire the next generations to continue this important heritage tradition.
