About
I am known for my innovation in knitting - both in exploring new materials and developing new techniques. This has introduced new audiences to the craft and generated interest in it. In 2005 I was commissioned to create lampshades for the new Shetland Museum and Archives and I designed and knit wire ones which still hang there today. I have a knit wire bracelet in the Scottish National Textile Collection which is on permanent display in the Shetland Museum. I have a piece inspired by the Press Gang displayed in the Shetland Textile Museum. My work sells internationally. For the past two winters I have travelled around 8 of Shetland’s inhabited outer isles to deliver knitting workshops as part of Culture Collective [Those projects were supported by Culture Collective, a national programme supported by Creative Scotland exploring ways of working together, supporting artists and embedding the arts within community recovery from the effects of Covid -19. Shetland, Orkney and the Outer Hebrides are working together a an ‘island group’ to share their experience and contribute to their communities.] I also design and make silver jewellery using a knit wire technique and Shetland Lace patterns and I deliver knit workshops online in my various original techniques.
