Heritage Crafts/Marsh Made in Britain Award 2017
Carréducker was the 2017 winner of the Made in Britain Award. Deborah Carré and James Ducker both left previous careers to become shoemakers and completed traditional apprenticeships in English handsewn shoemaking with a master shoemaker for John Lobb.
About
HERITAGE CRAFT - CORDWAINING
We are master cordwainers who make bespoke shoes that combine the traditions of the heritage craft of handsewn shoe making with a modern aesthetic, colour and detail.
We design each pair of bespoke shoes to suit our customer's personal taste, style and of course, fit.
LEARN SHOE MAKING
We founded and run the UK's only handsewn shoe making school at our workshop in Oxo Tower Wharf on London's South Bank.
Our aim is to open up opportunities for enthusiasts to learn this heritage craft on part time, introductory and intensive classes and to further develop their skills in masterclasses.
With sustainability an important part of our practice, we encourage students to continue to make repairing and repurposing old shoes, skills which we now incorporate into our classes.
In the past 20 years we have taught hundreds of beginners and budding shoemakers. We are proud that so many of our alumni have continued to pursue their mastery, training with other makers around the world.
Today many continue to practice and pass on these heritage skills themselves including Seiji McCarthy (Japan), Ann Marika Verploeghchasse and Jesse Moore Bespoke (NY) and William Laborde, Louis Smith, Oliver Stobbart, Sabina Lima and Fadairo Oluwamuyiwa (John Lobb apprentice) in the UK.
