Drew's passionate about, and supports others to learn, a wide range of specialist metalworking skills. He is a jeweller and fine metalwork technical specialist at Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom. In his role he has received training from local metalworkers, such as retiring metal spinner David Allison, with the aim of passing on these endangered craft skills to future generations.

In 2009-2010 he took part in the Yorkshire Artspace’s Starter Studio Programme (now named SilverSpace) where he further developed his work, often combining technical details and kinetic components. During this time his ‘Aperture Bowl’ was commissioned by Sheffield Assay office and is on display in their prestigious silverware collection. has been exhibited nationally (‘Yes We Can’, Sheffield 2023) and internationally (2024 Hainan International Jewelry Fair).
